Your Makers

A carefully selected squad of talented ladies who believe in slow fashion.

Birdie (or Kerryn)

I think I'm a fairly normal person, except for the fact that I crochet ALL THE TIME!  I'm a wife, a Mumma and a devoted hooker!

In a fast world of mass production, I believe in creating beautiful pieces using the best wool New Zealand has to offer. If you have the time to create something with your hands, create it with the best wool you can afford.

I love fashion but don’t follow trends. At Crochet Birdie you’ll find timeless items, heirloom class to be passed through the generations.

I hope that my journey evokes memories of your grandmother and great-grandmothers and inspires you to invest in something that was lovingly crafted or to have a go at crafting it yourself.

Age: 25

Occupation: Student (Primary Teaching)

I discovered the magic of crochet half way through 2016 and I haven’t looked back. I was introduced by a good friend and was absolutely inspired. I’ve always been big on arts and crafts since I was a little girl. Both my Mum and Grandma are great with a sewing machine and both have taught me knitting in the past but it never seemed to click quite like crochet has.

I grew up on a Sheep and Beef farm in North Otago and had a pet merino sheep called Big Lamby and his wool was always amazing. So to have the chance to work with Crochet Birdie and support NZ handmade as well as the NZ wool industry has been an unexpected dream come true.

I’m really excited to be working as a maker for Crochet Birdie to help produce items from the wonderful patterns she creates and that I know all the customers will absolutely enjoy.

Mum (Wendy)

Mum enjoys making blankets and any bigger projects I need help with.

This is us at my 30th (almost 2 years ago) ... related much??

I'm happily married to Gaza, I live & work in Gore - having lived in Southland all my life.

I'm lucky enough to be Crochet Birdie's Mum. Also Mum to her older brother Chris, Nan to Regan, Cooper, Leo and Jude. I love spending time with them all in and around some of the awesome lakes an easy 2-3 hours drive from home.

Crochet Birdie inspires me everyday. To try new things, push myself, drink wine & not take life too seriously xx

Sharna

Another lovely from my "Hookers Wanted" post. And she's local, YAY!!

Hello to all, my name is Sharna.

I am a dairy farmer and mother if 4 living in beautiful Southland.
I have always been an arts and crafty person, beginning with being taught by an auntie at a young age how to knit. Over the years, I have tried my hand at everything crafty including cross stitch and latch hooking. About 6 years ago I taught myself to crochet and since then it has taken precedence over all other crafts.

I am super pumped to be a maker for crochet birdie. The products we produce from her unique patterns and NZ wool are top quality and I know every item I make is going to someone who appreciates handmade pieces crafted with pride. I look forward to creating that special item you've been looking for.

Emma, this stunning woman replied to my 'Hookers Wanted' ad.

Emma

I live in rural Canterbury and work in cosmetics retail. I am a Mum of two gorgeous girls, I read, ride horses and watch WAY too much TV (a by product of crochet!)

I adore things that are handmade. My Grandmother started me knitting when I was 8 or 9. I taught myself to crochet when I was pregnant with my now 5 year old twins as a distraction in post earthquake Christchurch. It's a distraction that has become an obsession.

I am super excited to be part of the Crochet Birdie Maker Team ?

Emma P

This lovely is like my sister from another mister!

I am lucky enough to live in beautiful Te Anau with my sheep farmer husband and our gorgeous happy wee boy. I love yoga, Harry Potter, horse racing and a good cup of tea.

I am a big fan of home made and back to basics (just call me a Nanna) and love using and making classic wool products. I am a self taught "hooker" and I'm super excited to join the Crochet Birdie team ?

Diane

A local to Gore who is obsessed with her hook as much as I am!

Married to David for 32 years this year. We have 3 awesome children. I was lucky enough to be taught to crochet by my mother.I have lost count of the many blankets I have made for family over the years. I crochet in the car on long trips, at speedway between races (When hubby is racing), at night. Well to be honest I crochet when ever I want to.
